SikaFlex 554 Weather-resistant primerless assembly adhesive black 300 ml/430g

DESCRIPTION
Sikaflex®-554 is an elastic, 1-component adhesive system based on STP (Silane Terminated Polymer) specially developed for bonding large components in industrial assembly.
It has good adhesion to a wide range of substrates with minimal pre-treatment. Sikaflex®-554 can be accelerated using Sika Booster technology and the PowerCure system.

ADVANTAGES
▪ Good adhesion to various types of substrates without the need for a primer
▪ Very good resistance to weather effects
▪ Complies with DIN EN 45545-2 R1/R7 HL3
▪ Fast curing thanks to Sika Booster technology or PowerCure system
▪ Free of solvents, isocyanates, phthalates and PVC
▪ Able to withstand dynamic stress

AREAS OF USE
Sikaflex®-554 is suitable for joints that will be subjected to dynamic stress.
Suitable substrate materials are metals, especially aluminium, metal primers, paints, sheet steel, ceramic materials and some plastics. Good adhesion to a wide range of substrates with minimal pre-treatment. Before using Sikaflex®-554 on materials prone to stress cracking, perform tests on original substrates.
Sikaflex®-554 is intended for professional use, before application it is necessary to carry out adhesion and compatibility tests of the materials with current substrates and conditions.

CURE MECHANISM
Sikaflex®-554 cures with air humidity. If the ambient temperature is low, the water content in the air is also low and thus the curing reaction will slow down

CHEMICAL RESISTANCE
Sikaflex®-554 is generally resistant to fresh water, sea water, dilute acids and dilute lye solutions; temporarily resistant to fuels, mineral oils, vegetable and animal fats and oils.
Sikaflex®-554 is not resistant to organic acids, glycolic alcohol, concentrated mineral acids and caustic solutions or solvents.

METHOD OF APPLICATION

Preparation of documents
The substrate must be clean, dry and free of grease, oil and other contamination. The surface treatment depends on the specific nature of the substrates and is essential for long-term bonding. Suggestions for pre-treatment of the surface can be found in the current edition of the relevant pre-treatment document "Sika® Pre-treatment-Chart".
Important information: the suggestions in this document are based on experience and each application must be verified by tests on original materials and conditions.

Application
Sikaflex®-554 can be processed between 5°C and 40°C, but changes in reactivity and application properties should be taken into account when ambient conditions change. The optimum temperature for the substrate and sealant is between 15°C and 25°C. Be aware that viscosity will increase at low temperatures. Therefore, for easy  application, adjust the temperature of the glue to ambient temperature. To ensure an even thickness of the glue, it is recommended to apply it in the form of a triangular bead. Sikaflex®-554 can be applied by hand, pneumatic or electric guns as well as pump equipment. The open time is significantly shorter in hot and humid climates. Parts must always be glued in open time. Never glue individual parts if the glue has already formed a surface skin. In case of selecting a suitable pumping system or setting up the current system, please contact the Sika Industry system engineering department.

Smoothing and embedding the surface
Smoothing and finishing must be done before creating the surface skin of the product. We recommend using Sika® Tooling Agent N for smoothing. Other preparations must be tested for suitability and compatibility before use.

Removal
Uncured Sikaflex®-554 can be removed from tools and equipment with Sika® Remover-208 or another suitable solvent. After hardening, the material can only be removed mechanically. Hands and exposed skin can be cleaned with hand wipes, e.g. Sika® Cleaner-350H or other suitable industrial body cleaner and water.
Do not use solvents on the skin!
